Stop Throwing Away Your Food

Do you feel like you’re constantly throwing away food that’s gone bad before you get a chance to use it? that’s actually very common. According to the USDA, it is estimated that 30-40% of the food supply is thrown away.

With many Americans drowning in debt, it doesn’t make sense to be throwing our hard earned cash down the drain. Follow these simple tips to make your food last longer.

5 Tips to Waste Less Food

1. Store fresh herbs in a small jar of water in the fridge to preserve freshness.

2. Greens getting slimy after being opened just a couple days? Remove them from the container, line it with paper towels, then refill it with the greens. This removes all the excess moisture, allowing your greens to stay fresh up to 2 weeks!

3. Freeze foods before they go bad. Got berries, onion, zucchini or meat that’s close to going bad but you don’t have time to eat it before it does? Keep a stash of freezer bags on hand to pack up with these almost gone foods.

4. Stop buying fresh produce and switch to canned or frozen. In most instances, these are actually cheaper, and they more nutrient dense!

5. Prep food right away when you get back from the grocery store. Cut up fruits and veggies, portion proteins for the meals you plan to make. You’re more likely to use it while cooking if it’s already prepped.
