As you may now realize, wine is my jam! I’m definitely partial to the fruit wines from Wisconsin but I’ve found some other favorites too! I’m sure this list will change as I travel to more wineries but I’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new finds. Plus, my tastes tend to change over time. Currently, I’m not a fan of dry, red wines, but I’m always open to suggestions.
Not only is Drink Pink! my favorite wine, Parallel 44 is my favorite winery. Located in Door County, WI, this winery has a variety of wines from sweet to dry, dessert to sparkling. They definitely have something for everyone and with 2 locations (Door 44 and Parallel 44), there’s no excuse to not stop by! Drink Pink! is a tart, fruity wine that, you guessed it, comes in a pretty pink color. I totally get hints of grapefruit, as well as berries and this is a favorite of mine to enjoy with dinner or just to relax after a long day. Drink Pink! has also won tons of awards for bet wine! At $18 a bottle, I may have a whole case of this at my house right now!
From another of my favorite Door County wineries, Autumn Harvest is a tart, fruity wine perfect for fall. This wine is made from a blend of cranberries and honey crisp apples. There are no tannins in the wine so it goes down like juice but packs a punch with its 11% alcohol content. This was the wine that got Manny to become a wine drinker- he will actually have more than one glass with me whenever I open a bottle from Lautnbach’s. At $10.50 a bottle, this is the perfect addition to Thankgiving dinner without costing you a fortune! (If you don’t like cranberry, any of the fruit splash wines are so amazing that you can’t tell they have alcohol- I highly recommend checking them out!)
We discovered this by chance while at my in-laws. They offered me a glass of wine and it turned out to be red, my least favorite. After a reluctant sip, I discovered it wasn’t dry at all, but instead a semi-sweet, easy-drinking wine. It has hints of berries and cherry that go perfectly with pizza and pastas (some of my favorite dinners). Imagine my surprise when I found out I could buy it for less than $9 at Wal-Mart, in the big bottle! This is our go-to dinner wine since its budget friendly and super tasty!
From a Southern New Mexico Winery, the Mimbres Pink is an award winning, light rose. It has fruity hints that remind me of strawberries and pomegranate. It pairs well with all foods, although its light flavor goes best with fresh salads or to counter some of the spicy food you will encounter in the southwest. If you’re not a fan of rose, try the Mimbres Red or Mimbres White. I love all three but the pink wins by a hair. This is another affordable option as it retails for jut $12 a bottle.
From across the ocean (literally!), Volcano Blush is a unique wine made from the jaboticaba berries from the Big Island of Hawaii. It has the tropical, fruity hints you would expect from an island wine but also carries a kick of spice. It pairs well with flavorful, spicy foods including Mexican and Thai cuisines. When I was studying in Hawai, I sent a few bottles of this home after tasting it since it’s not something I come by often. If you ever make it to the islands, I suggest stopping by the Volcano Winery and sampling Volcano Blush, as well as their other wines. A reasonable rice, this is available for purchase at $18 a bottle and would be perfect for watching a sunset over the ocean.
So there you have it, my current favorite wines. If these don’t float your boat, I have plenty of other suggestions. I’m looking into trying a wine subscription so I can taste a lot more new wines without having to wait to travel. Any recommendations are much appreciated. Also, I’m always open to suggestions for new wineries to visit and new bottles to try so comment below with your favorites!
