Must Have Travel Snacks

I love going on trips, but eating out all the time can get expensive. We just got back from a week in San Antonio, TX and tried our bet to stick to a budget. Bringing your own snacks is a great way to save you big time. Check out my five must-have travel snacks for your next trip!

My Go-To Travel Snacks

  1. Trail Mix– Packed with healthy fats, protein, and carbs, trail-mix is a great snack to keep you full and the hangry-ness at bay. A small handful in the car on the way to my next stop can keep me full until mealtime. This one has dried blueberries, peanuts, vanilla almond granola, cashews and macadamia nuts. With the hot temperatures, the chocolate will have to wait until next time.
  2. String Cheese– These guys are easy to eat on the go and since they are in wrappers, if you don’t have access to good handwashing, you can still get a high protein snack without getting your germs all over. (I do recommend investing in a travel sized hand sanitizer though).
  3. Granola Bars– Perfect for throwing in your bag for a trip to the amusement park, granola bars are a great grab-and-go snack. The kids are picky eaters and prefer Chewy bars, although I always love a good RX bar.  No refrigeration is necessary and they are perfect for keeping kids full while waiting in line for the attractions.
  4. Regular Girl On-The-Go Sticks Traveling is hard on your digestive system and it’s no fun being plugged up. New food, less water and exposure to germs all have an impact on your GI system. I use Regular Girl in my morning orange juice to make sure my gut stays happy and healthy throughout my trip.
  5. Insulated Water Bottle- Busy vacations leave ample opportunity for dehydration. I like to start my day with a large glass of water and then take a botlle or two with me while I’m sight-seeing. Some attractions won’t let you bring water bottles in so an insulated bottle makes sure your water stays cool even after sitting in the hot car all day!

Besides these must-haves, I always make sure I have a variety of fresh fruit with me, and some sort of crackers. What other snacks do you take when you travel?
