Kahlo Kitchen

Hi friends! I want to introduce you to a new segment of my site for all my local people, as well as anyone looking to visit the area- #WendyEatsElPaso!

Now that I own a home here, I figured I should really integrate myself into the community and culture that El Paso has to offer. Manny and I love to go out to eat, but we often frequent the same 3-4 places. El Paso actually has a really unique food scene so we decided to do a weekly date night and find a new, local place each week. And then we’ll share it with you so you! Enjoy!

Located on Edgemere Blvd on the East Side of El Paso across from El Dorado High School.

Atmosphere

This brightly colored, quaint little place was empty for our entire meal except for the staff. We went at about 6pm on a Wednesday so I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be a ghost town.  Located across from a high school, I’m guessing they get a pretty big crowd at lunch time. They did get quite a few Uber Eats orders while we were there, which kept the staff busy and free from hovering around us (I hate hovering). The restaurant has a fun, artsy vibe, but still has all the components of a traditional Mexican restaurant. Also, I’m obsessed with their cheese-grater lights!

Menu

Kahlo Kitchen is a Mexican Burger place that combines modern, American cuisine with traditional, Mexican home cooking. There are a wide variety of burgers crafted with chorrizo, chile, and salsa. There are also a ton of starters/street food that vary from soup, fruit tacos, to Mexi Dogs. The restaurant has a cute little book that has a picture of all the menu options so if you’re not sure about something, seeing the picture may help you make up your mind. Everything looked amazing so we ended up ordering way more food than we needed, but it was soooo worth it!

What He Ate

Tamarindo Fruit Tacos- they taste like candy! Served in a sugary shell, these tacos have mango, pineapple and strawberries inside with shredded jamaica.

El Charro Chorizo- A real mexican burger patty that has chorizo mixed in with the beef. It also has sauteed pineapple, avocado, veggies and asadero cheese!

Mixed Berry Limeade- a sweet take on traditional, fresh-squeezed limeade.

What She Ate

Pina Loco- a hollowed-out pineapple filled with fruit- watermelon, pineapple, strawberries and mango.

Maestro Diego- a burger topped with a stuffed poblano pepper and three cheeses- muenster, asedero, and queso fresco. This was perfect combination of cheese and mexican food for my cheese-loving, Wisconsin tastebuds.

Cucumber water- a refreshing drink with chile on the rim!

Price

Kahlo Kitchen has very reasonable prices with burgers at about $10, plus they come with fries (and everyone loves fries!). Drinks are about $2 for the specialty lemonades, horchata, and fruit water. But beware- everything looks so good that you’ll end up ordering all the things, and then spending more than anticipated!

Overall Recommendation

Kahlo Kitchen is such a cute place and the food is Ahh-maze-ing!!! We highly recommend trying them out!

Tune in next week to see where our next adventure takes us. Do you have a recommendation of a new place for us to try? Drop it in the comments below! And if you try out any of the places we’ve been, let us know, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
