How to Avoid Getting Sick on your Wedding

As your wedding date approaches, your stress level is likely climbing. So many details, so little time! One thing no bride wants to worry about on her wedding day is getting sick.  Eating an immune boosting diet in the months leading up to your wedding can help take that fear off your list.

Protein is important for healing and recovery.  Eat lean meats, poultry, eggs, seafood, milk, beans/peas, soy products and unsalted nuts and seeds.

Vitamin A works to boost the immune system and fight infections by keeping your skin and body tissues healthy. Good sources include carrots, broccoli, raw spinach, red bell peppers, eggs, sweet potatoes and apricots.

Vitamin C helps the immune system by promoting the formation of antibodies. Good sources include mango, oranges, strawberries, papaya, red bell peppers, and foods fortified with vitamin C (like many cereals).

Vitamin E works as an antioxidant and may be beneficial to supporting immune function. You can increase your intake by eating almonds, peanut butter, hazelnut butter, and sunflower seeds.

Zinc has a role in wound healing and also helps the immune system function properly. Good sources include lean meat, seafood, poultry, beans, whole grains, seeds, and nuts.

Other important nutrients include in your diet are iron, Vitamins B6 and B12, copper, folate, and selenium.

Immune Boosting Tips

  1. Aim for 6-7 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Many fruits and veggies include multiple immune boosting nutrients. Start by choosing a fruit or vegetable for each snack.
  2. Add activity to your day. Exercise makes you stronger and can help reduce stress.
  3. Make sure you’re getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Lack of sleep can increase stress and weaken your immune system.
  4. Speaking of stress, find ways to manage your stress as high stress levels can weaken your immune system. Find activities that take your mind off the wedding and that you enjoy
