This Labor Day Weekend we had some friends from Wisconsin visit our slice of the desert. As you may know, Wisconsites love their beer, so we took this opportunity to check out the local brewery scene here in El Paso. I was pleasantly surprised and definitely found some new favorites. So did Manny, as he bought multiple Growlers to stock our new home bar that he’s building! Stay tuned on IG for pics of the completed project!
Over the weekend we made stops at 4 breweries that all make their beer locally: Deadbeach Brewing, El Paso Brewing Co, Blazing Tree and Ode Brewing. I love getting to see the set up of the tanks and the unique flavors each place makes. I’ve listed my favorite beer at each location, as well as a brief overview of each location. Please note that my choice in beer varies from day to day in that I like IPA, stouts, and occasionally lagers. So if you’re looking for something specific, you’re asking the wrong girl!
Deadbeach Brewery: Located in Downtown El Paso. The inside reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean- lots of skulls and mermaids, dark with a bit of glam. Plus, they have a beautiful patio that I could enjoy for hours. I drank the One Love, a traditional Helles Lager with passion fruit. Not only was it good, the brewery also donated a percentage of sales to the victims of the El Paso shooting. Another bonus, they serve food!
El Paso Brewing Co: Located near the Downtown area. This was my second time visiting and in the 2 years since I’ve been, they have added food to the menu, something very important to me! The brewery has yard games inside (think giant jenga and connect four) as well as board games. Definitely go with friends and you can spend the whole day there! I tried a flight and they were all tasty but I think my favorite would have to have been the Sun City Helles Lager.
Blazing Tree Brewery: Located in a warehouse district on the east side of El Paso and easy to miss, but well worth it. Blazing Tree has a cozy atmosphere. While they don’t serve food, we did bring Ardovino’s Pizza with us for dinner. All their beers were good but the Peanut Butter Pale Ale tastes like liquid nutter butters and is a must-have! I’ve actually heard about this beer from many people and have been wanting to try it for quite some time and it definitely lived up to its reputation.
Ode Brewing:Located on the west side near UTEP. Ode has a large patio with corn hole, rocking chair, an outdoor bar, and spectacular mountain views, as well as plenty of indoor seating. The food is definitely higher-end compared to our other stops and is very tasty. They have a variety of unique brews on tap, and also serve beermosas on the weekends. My favorite would have to be the Dr. Green Thumb, but I really enjoyed my whole flight.
While I much prefer wine to beer, I love trying out new craft breweries. Plus, Manny is also planning to brew his own beer once the home bar is finished. I have a feeling if all goes well, he will eventually open a small brewery. I’ll let you know how it all goes!
